"Gudrun"

Gudrun in 1999

Here is how Gudrun looked last year at 12 months

Here she is with her twin ram lambs this year.
She has silvered but still is mostly black.

Gudrun is a sweet, inquisitive ewe with a calm disposition. She is a spotted black and carries solid as a pattern and as such has two solid pattern genes.  She is a nice square ewe with a white blaze on her forehead in the same spot as her sire, Spot of Misty Meadow Icelandics.  Her white blaze extends to become a pretty bright white stripe on her black left horn.  She has a very soft fleece.  Once she lambed her black fleece has started to silver on her flanks and is now a range from a nice silver/charcoal gray to black.  Her horns are nice but  medium and a little close.  We have bred her to wide horn rams and the results are very good horns.

Gudrun's genetic make up is as follows:

  From Sire From Dame
Color: Black Black or moorit
Pattern: Solid Solid
Spotting: Yes Yes

Here are her parents:

Dam: BLW-84D "Freija" , a beautiful black badgerface, horned , single.  She is the grand dame of Misty Meadow Icelandics flock and has a 175% lambing percentage.  She carries spotting.

Sire: TKM-08G "Spot", spotted black, horned, twin with a white forehead. Spot was is a big tall ram at Misty Meadow Icelandics with jet black fleece with wavy "corkscrew" tog.  He has since moved on to another farm.

Bred to:

"Aslan" BLW-137H. Lamb- result percentages are:
50% white (carrying solid and spotting)
25% solid moorit (carrying spotting)
25% solid black (carrying moorit and spotting)

As both parents are widely horned the lamb(s) will have great  horns.

April 12, 2001 was exciting for us as one of our original ewes Gudrun gave birth  to twins, a white horned ram and a black horned ram.  Both lambs were born with horns already sticking out.  Gudrun had been bred to Aslan, our head ram so the offspring were bound to be good sized and strongly horned.  These guys will make good sires for a starter flock.  Because Gudrun is spotted they carry spotting as well.
